An eighteen year old Lauren Bacall on the Harper’s Bazaar cover that would launch her career in 1943. Slim Hawks, iconic director Howard Hawks’ then wife, saw Bacall’s photo and suggested, ‘What about this girl?’ Howard Hawks was looking for a new face to mould into a star. He eventually cast Bacall in a new project, To Have And Have Not. The rest is history.
